A 25-km stretch of the A1 Motorway in Poland has been opened to traffic eleven months ahead of schedule. The new road, which began construction in October 2005, will shorten the route and travel times between Gdansk and the national east-west road, the so called Berlinka, near Swarozyn. The newly opened section includes three interchanges and three long motorway bridges, and is fully equipped with a toll collection system. The motorway will be operated by Intertoll Polska. |
Torbjörn Nohrstedt, President of Gdansk Transport Company (GTC), the Skanska-led SPC managing the development, said: “Many centuries ago merchants from the remote Roman Empire travelled hundreds of kilometers of the Amber Road searching for ‘northern gold’.
